From the Balcony - Glasgow 2014: Glasgow Commonwealth Games

The Glasgow Commonwealth games are just round the corner set for what's set to be a great opportunity for Scotland and Glasgow to showcase to the world what this city and country has to offer.

Final thanks go to all the footage used for this preview Glasgow 2014 Trailor.

My aim is to help promote these games not step on any one's toes regarding copyright. This can hopefully seen as a beneficial advert for Glasgow 2014.

Glasgow Underground - The Railroad of Dreams

Like many folks to visit Glasgow or talk of this city, few people ever realise that Glasgow has its very own underground system. Compared to the likes of the London Underground or the New York City Metro this is a tiny version, the toy train set equivalent! Definitely worth a gander if you’re about these parts.

Happened to come across some interesting old video footage of the Glasgow Underground back in the 1970’s before it had a huge makeover in the 1980’s. These short films and the general surreal feel of this mini-underground railway even today, provided the inspiration for the latest musical offering from Playfio and with an accompanying Glasgow Underground music video.

Many thanks to the users who posted these old Glasgow Underground clips online. These certainly helped when putting together this track and also helped provide one of my favourite samples. The catchy words of  “It’s a railroad of dreams my boy, a railroad of dreams” the perfect line to bring together this music.

This Time - Chillout Music from Playfio featuring Angela Sharman (Playfio Music Productions)

Chillout track by Playfio featuring Angela Sharman
Been quite a few months since the Playfio Music blog has been updated. Things have been pretty busy. I’m pleased to release a track that has been sat around collecting dust for some time now.
I first started working on this last year and had help again on the piano from Angela Sharman.

This is another chilled out offering and focuses on the subject of time.  No time like the present! so I’ll get on and introduce this track.

This short but poignant song can be summed up by a quote by Benjamin Franklin – “You may delay, but time will not” – he was the man who as a joke began Daylight saving time. He proposed waking people earlier on bright summer mornings so they might work more during the day and thus save candles. It was introduced in the U.K. in 1917 and then spread around the world.

The track ‘This Time’ has the following lyrics:

You’ll spend ten years of your life in the rat race,
another five just getting there and back
is it not time to work out what matters
because when you’re gone you’re not getting it back

The other collaboration I worked on with Angela is 'Laid Back'

Mellow Master (Keepon Dancing) Saxophone Funk

Playfio Productions bring you Funky Sax
Plenty of Sax in this new track which I’ve been working on these first cold months of 2013.  I started with a catchy sax hook and played around with this using a number of different saxophone samples and funky sounding synths.

I’ve been meaning to come up with new and original music videos and I just about reckon I’ve succeeded! Maybe not to everyone’s taste..producing the video has been pretty good fun and it should complement  the music.  Enjoy the four new stars of the music video. Those of you familiar with the EDF adverts will notice a slight resemblance (popular EDF  advert– Giorgio Moroder & Phil Oakley “Together in Electric Dreams”)looks like the EDF Energy mascot flame character on tour with the band! I’ve used the robotic toys ‘Keepons’ as the stars of the video.

Please get involved and VOTE HERE for this track on the Beat 100 Chart

Keepon is a hand sized yellow rubber robot designed to help social development with young children especially ones with autism. The yellow robot was designed by Hideki Kozima, the Keepon has a total of four moving motors, two cameras in each eye and a microphone for its nose. They were maybe designed as a scientific tool but react to touch, noise etc. and best of all dance to music! Saw one online and thought for £20..why not. You can buy a Keepon online here

Anyways, hope you enjoy the music video, I have included as many acknowledgments as I could for all the fantastic black and white photography I’ve used in this video.

Without Music by Playfio Music Productions

Playfio Music Productions present Without Music
I’m pleased to introduce my latest music offering. I’m really pleased with the way this one’s turned out and this is a great way to bring in the New Year. I took inspiration from this song from an article I wrote as part of a guest blog post for the Music Learning Workshop.

This article is called: “How does music have the ability to stir long lost emotions and memories?” if you would like to check out the article please find it here.

It begins with the following words:

Friedrich Nietzsche once said, “Without music, life would be a mistake. “ It is probably a sentiment that most of us would agree with without any form of challenge.

I used this thought to put together the lyrics for this song. This is definitely a song of massive contrast so make sure you listen all the way through, to not miss the best bit. Also, speaking of the word ‘massive’, I have had a few comments so far regarding some similarities with Massive Attack, I’m certainly taking that as a compliment, definitely no bad thing!

The massive contrast of this track turns from 100BPM (beats per minute) to 160BPM in one second, quite a feat, working out how actually to do this and make the seamless join. It certainly helped listening to a couple of Pendulum’s tracks and see how the professionals do it. Their album ‘In Silico’ has some truly great builds and breaks and is definitely worth a listen, perfect driving music.

Anyways enough ramblings now, I hope you enjoy the first track of 2013 from Playfio Music and hope you all have a super year.

Review from 7bitarcade - thanks to Katy

‘Without music’ centres on the importance of the link between music and your emotions. This is based on a dialogue that runs throughout the song accompanied by a pulsating beat which seems to ebb along. This takes an unexpected turn in the last 2 minutes of the song where all the sounds are kicked up a notch and the electronic beats collide in a rapid motion. It is an interesting creation which combines theories of music and sound.
